Just wanted to pass along to you that last week, the JV Baseball team defeated, in dramatic, come-from-behind fashion, the St. John’s College High School 9th grade team. Despite it only being their 9th grade squad, they were definitely the best team we have faced all year. Here’s what happened according to Coach Hude:
In the first inning, St. John’s blisteringly jumped to a 7-0 lead. Our guys, for a short time, appeared shell-shocked. But they did not quit. Instead, led by Matt McCreary’s knee-buckling curveballs and Brady Hall’s bullet-like fastballs, our JVers crawled back into the game.
We would not yield another run.
Entering the bottom of the last inning, we were down 7-6. Joe Bruchalski earned his way to first base. And then Matt McCreary hit a line drive grounder into left field. The SJCHS fielder somehow let it get past him. Bruchalski came around to score, and McCreary sprinted for a triple. As the SJCHS players tried to fire the ball to third, the third-baseman failed to catch it, resulting in the ball going out of play and Matt McCreary being awarded an extra base, in this case, home plate and a victory for The Heights.
As the boys piled on each other in celebration at home plate, somebody could hear in the crowd one of the SJCHS parents cry out in exasperation, “The Heights? I haven’t even heard of this place!?”
Now they have, now they have!
